Professor Heo Jun, who was honored with the Nobel Prize in mathematics and Fields Medal, Dool Kim Yong-ok, who is considered the best intellectual of his era, Shin Seung-beom, a one-stroke lecturer in mathematics, and Seol Min-seok, who is leading the craze for getting to know the history of the nation. What do they have in common?

It is called "chalk." The chalk that world's most famous mathematicians spend 10 years stocking up on. "Hagoromo Chalk" is selling like hot cakes around the world thanks to its unique soft writing and durability, which does not break easily. It is a product that has become a luxury brand and is generating enthusiasts.

The company that makes this chalk is located in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. At the Sejong Mall in Pocheon, 80,000 pieces of chalk are produced every day. Chalk made here is exported to the U.S., China, the U.K., Germany, and Canada. In particular, it is being exported back to Japan, which was home to Hagoromo Chalk recently. It became more popular than chalk when an anecdote about the founding of Sejong Mall CEO Shin Hyung-seok (52) became public.

Shin, a famous math instructor, accidentally brought some chalk from Japan 16 years ago when he was visiting to learn about an advanced academy management system. Back then, he had no idea that a few chalks would change his life.

"I went to a private institute in Japan and found that chalk stood out more than anything else. I got some from various colors and soft notes that I didn't see in Korea. It said small hago Romo on the chalk. When I came back to Korea and gave a lecture with fluorescent chalk, the kids loved it so much. That's when I became interested in chalk."
